Why are more people choosing organic food?

  • Taste- Many people buy organic food because they tell us it tastes better.
  • Food Safety- Organic farmers, as far as possible, avoid using unnecessary chemical sprays. Food additives linked to asthma and heart disease are among those banned under organic standards. Consumption of organic produce represents a relatively simple means for parents to reduce their children's pesticide exposure.
  • The Environment- The Government, their statutory advisors (English Nature, the Environmental Agency) and NGO's, including the RSPB, say in the Organic Action Plan that organic farming has environmental benefits. The government stated that organic farming is better for wildlife, causes lower pollution from sprays, produces less carbon dioxide and less dangerous wastes, and has high animal welfare standards and increases jobs in the countryside.
  • Animal Welfare- Organic farming requires animals to be kept in more natural, free-range conditions with a more natural diet. No system of farming has higher levels of animal welfare standards than organic farms working to Soil Association standards.

Church Farm has Soil Association accreditation meaning we are governed by strict standards. For further reading visit the Soil Association website.
